This morning YouTube invited a small group of press to unveil the latest evolution of the site’s viewing experience. It’s called YouTube XL, and it’s going to bring the vast majority of YouTube’s content to your TV or large-screen computer monitor. It’s already live, and you can check it out here.

At its core YouTube XL is basically a redesigned version of the YouTube website. It’s still run in the browser, and you don’t have to download anything to get it working (assuming you have Flash installed). It looks (and according to the demo, feels) like a native application.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the interface is that it’s very clean. This is due in no small part to the fact that it currently doesn’t have any ads (we can probably expect this to change). But YouTube has stripped out many of the suggested videos, comments, and other content that clutters the main site in favor of a much more streamlined interface that is usable from across the room.

One of the most appealing aspects of XL is that it will work on nearly any device that has a browser and can connect to the TV. That means you’ll be able to use it though your PS3 (though it sounds like there are some limitations – for example, the PS3 doesn’t support HD YouTube videos yet). Likewise the Wii will be able to use the new site, but because of its lower hardware capabilities it outputs at at a lower resolution.

Of course, one of the most key elements to offering a TV-like experience is the abiity to control the application remotely. You can use a wireless keyboard, but YouTube has developed found something a bit more practical called Gmote, a remote control app that runs on Android phones. You can scroll around menus, and also input text if you’d like to search. It’s only on Android so far, but because it’s open source you can potentially develop for other devices as well. The input is sent over your Wi-Fi network.
Update: Gmote is actually a third party application that works well with YouTube XL, but YouTube didn’t develop it in-house.

With Hulu’s release of Hulu Desktop earlier this week, and today’s release of YouTube XL, it’s clear that the video wars are going to be fought in the living room over the next few years. YouTube XL definitely has potential, especially with its integration with the PS3 and the Wii (Hulu Desktop only works on computers). Now the site just needs to work on bringing more premium content to YouTube – it’s fun to watch silly user-generated videos on my computer, but if I’m going to couch surf through YouTube on my big screen TV, I’d rather watch content that’s a little more polished.

Hanggang Kailan

Handa ng sasabihin,
Noon pa man gustong aminin,
Pero bago pa man patapusin,
Biglaan mo akong binitin.

Ang sabi mo sa akin,
Nagkakamali ka,
Wag ka nang umasa,
Kaibigan lamang kita 2x

Pahamak yan si kupido,
Di man asintado,
Tinamaan nga ako pero haging lamang sayo
Hanggang tingin na lang,
Lagi na lang ganyan
Nasasanay na ang puso ko,
Lagi na lang nabibigo.

Kapalaran ko na yata,
Na tatanda akong binata.
Di ko malilimutan,
Mga binitawan mong salita.

Ang sabi mo sa akin,
Nagkakamali ka,
Wag ka nang umasa,
Kaibigan lamang kita 2x

Pahamak yan si kupido,
Di man asintado,
Tinamaan nga ako pero haging lamang sayo
Hanggang tingin na lang,
Lagi na lang ganyan
Nasasanay na ang puso ko,
Lagi na lang nabibigo.

I think this album will be a great hit! daming catchy songs…

Lets support our artists by buying their album… ( Pramis bibili na talaga ako :D )

For something that’s supposed to be small, self-contained and all about simplifying Windows, MinWin causes a lot of confusion.

Microsoft Technical Fellow Mark Russinovich laid out the technical details at Microsoft’s TechEd conference, so we’ve gathered together the essential information you need to know about it.

Yes, MinWin is in Windows 7 (and Windows Server 2008 R2). No it’s not a new kernel.

Instead, it’s an attempt to rewrite the most basic foundation of Windows – not just the kernel, but also the basics of the file system and network connection, with drivers and services – as a self-contained and logically separate system. With a clean division instead of complex interconnections, it will be much easier to improve and add to Windows – without causing compatibility problems.

“Windows has grown up organically over time and it consists of thousands of EXEs, DLLs and APIs,” explains Russinovich; “Everything depends on everything. We’ve got 600 binaries; if we took one of them you’d break stuff and we can’t even tell you what would break. When we go and change Windows, we end up changing the behaviours of those interconnects at deep levels.”

MinWin, he says, is “carved out of the rest of Windows”. It takes up 25MB of disk space and 40MB of memory.

It can build without the rest of Windows, it can boot without the rest of Windows and it can access the network. That doesn’t mean it would ever be a super-slim command-line-only operating system – just that it’s self-contained rather than dependant on anything else.

SLIM: MinWin is more than the kernel – but not a lot more.

To create MinWin, Microsoft drew a line across the lowest-level of the Windows architecture. Because of the spaghetti-like interdependencies, that line cuts through DLLs and other low-level system services. “We had to figure out how to move stuff into MinWin and how to move stuff out,” says Russinovich.

Where the system calls belonged in MinWin, the Windows team created brand-new DLLs as part of MinWin (the main one is called KERNELBASE.DLL) but applications that depend on the old system calls don’t break because they get forwarded to the new DLL. That’s how Microsoft has managed to change the most basic level of Windows without breaking every single Windows program.

CLEAN CUT: Making MinWin meant rewriting everything that the line cuts through – so rewriting things above the line will be easier in the future.

MinWin is just the first step; Russinovich calls it “foundational work for Windows to undo the sins of the past and get everybody to a better place”.

There are more changes to come in the kernel in the future – Microsoft wants to make it run everywhere from the data centre down to ARM-style processors in smartphones one day – but they don’t mean an entirely new version of Windows written from the ground up because once Windows is neatly sliced into layers, you can change one of them without rewriting everything.

Heto at babawi ako ngayon.

Sabado.

(Oops bago yun, naglakad muna kami papuntang Burger King at kumain).

Change of plan, lumipat kami sa iba. Sa Quattro.

Ayos ang ambiance pagpasok mo. Mausok. Amoy beer. Amoy mayaman. Amoy feeling mayaman. Merong babae at merong iba, Kano.

2 Venti Frappucino – coffee based. 1 Venti Royal Jelly with Korean Ginseng (Sori! Di ko matandaan. Hehe! Basta may jelly yung inorder ni Jheng).

Kwento. Tawa. Sipsip. Kwento. Tawa. Sipsip. Kwento. Wiwi. Haay..

At minsan na naming napatunayan na: The sun doesn’t wait for us. We are the ones who wait for the sun.

In September 2008, we indicated that we would communicate our direction on voice and wireless technologies in six months. We have decided not to develop any new voice or wireless courseware for the Cisco CCNA concentration certifications at this time.

We have consistently heard that equipment investment and maintenance are major barriers for many academies. Voice and wireless solutions require higher up-front equipment expenses and more frequent updates than routing and switching equipment. As equipment is a critical element in helping students gain hands-on experience, this would present a significant challenge to most academies and limit their ability to adopt voice or wireless courses. We need to ensure we have an effective and scalable equipment solution that broadly meets the needs of our students and academies before we invest in developing any voice or wireless courses.

In addition, we recently made a strategic decision to develop the CCNA Security course with a new training and support model. After the course launches in July 2009, we will be evaluating how academies adopt CCNA Security and also monitoring the effectiveness of the new model. This evaluation process will help us determine whether we should apply a similar approach when we develop any new offerings.

As we continue to evaluate our direction, we encourage academies that are interested in teaching skills that align with the CCNA Voice and CCNA Wireless certifications to make use of the Cisco Press books on these subjects.

Research shows that employers looking to fill high-tech positions now seek lesser experienced IT pros.

IT professionals with more than five years experience on the job could have a more difficult time finding work during the recession than those with less experience, according to research from online career resource Beyond.com.

Slideshow: 20 most useful career sites for IT professionals

The IT industry continues to see online job postings, but the problem is that more and more high-tech workers are actively looking, Beyond.com found in its Career Trend Analysis Report for the first quarter. Beyond.com compiles data from its network of more than 15,000 online communities.

Close to 60% of business professionals polled said they would “take any job they could if they found themselves unemployed.” And the data revealed that there was a 54.5% increase in the number of IT professionals searching for a job vs. during the same period a year ago.

The IT industry made up 11.32% of online job postings in the first quarter, second only to healthcare and medical at 23.2%, according to Beyond.com, but the number of IT pros looking for work might not be considered a fit for the current open positions. The research shows that 79% of the IT candidates posting resumes online had five or more years of experience. But the majority (81.58%) of online job postings were for permanent full-time jobs and for candidates with less than one year of experience (59.47%).

“In times of economic uncertainty, employers are extremely mindful of expenses, especially as it relates to their recruitment program, to ensure that their business is able to continue thriving,” said Rich Milgram, CEO of Beyond.com, in a statement. “As a result many companies are focused on hiring front-line workers who can make the most impact on their business with the least amount of financial risk, further widening the gap that exists between the type of candidates in demand compared to the type of candidates currently searching for a job.”

Fotografix (616KB)

Fotografix is an image editor that can be used to enhance, adjust and add filters to images as well as retouching photos. Fotografix does allow you to use layers so that you can even create basic graphic designs and transparent backgrounds. Since the file size is so small and doesn’t require installation, Fotografix can be run from a USB drive. There is support for a large range of different image formats. Fotografix also allows you to use scripts which automate frequently repeated tasks.

Fotografix image editor and digital image enhancer.

Splashup Light (93.5KB)

Splashup Light is the lighter version of the more advanced, full version of Splashup. It is an Adobe AIR application that allows you to edit and add effects to photos with numerous creative tools. With Splashup light you can open a file on your computer or take a picture straight from your webcam to edit. There is also a great pan tool that lets you move your image around for the best view. Along with being able to add shapes and text to images, you can resize, crop, rotate and flip.

i.Mage (850KB)

i.Mage is a unique small yet fast graphics editor that lets you do easy and precise pixel editing. It’s not weighed down with a lot of plugins so the program actually starts in under a second. i.Mage is definitely the right tool for the quick and simple tasks. You can either start a new project from scratch or from the contents of your clipboard. There is a two-pane view so that you can see the full image on one side and the pixilated image on the other. i.Mage might be small and simple but it’s loaded with great tools and features.

Paint.net (1.6MB)

Paint.NET is actually a personal favorite of mine that I’ve been using for a few years now and is a GIMP competitor. Even though it’s lightweight, it allows you to do a lot of advanced enhancements and adjustments. Paint.net also supports layers and even has an unlimited undo feature. If you are looking for more adjustments, effects and/or enhancements, there are quite a few plugins that you can install to do just what you’re looking for.

Paint.net free image and photo editor for Windows.

IrfanView (1.28MB)

IrfanView is another great tool that lets you view, convert and optimize images. You can do more advanced things like creating slideshows, batch processing, and playing sounds and movies. You can view just about any file format with IrfanView. Plus, it also supports plugins and even has different toolbar skins so that you can change the look of your toolbar. Though IrfanView has less emphasis on image editing and more on image viewing, it’s still one of the best in its league.

Easy Photo Editor (1.25MB)

When you download Easy Photo Editor you will have the trial version which has a 6 images limit per process; the full version is $29.95. The title definitely fits the program, as it’s very limited in features. Easy Photo Editor lets you view, edit, and enhance your photos to a certain extent. It supports the major graphic formats like BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and multipage TIFF. You can also convert, resize, rotate, and stamp text or graphics onto your photos in batch mode. Lastly, Easy Photo Editor makes it easy for you to email your edited images via the Internet.

View, edit, and enhance your photos with Easy Photo Editor.

Free Image Editor (1.39MB)

Free Image Editor is a another simple bitmap image editor that lets you retouch photos or create original graphics. You have the choice of starting a new project from scratch, opening a file, capturing the current window, scanning an image from your scanner, or using the contents of your clipboard. What I really like about Free Image Editor is the built in capturing tool for taking screenshots. You can capture the desktop, a selection, the active window or an object in a window. Free Image Editor also provides a rich set of graphics tools that can be used for digital photography such as raster and paint tools.

PhotoFiltre (1.6MB)

PhotoFiltre is great for retouching and adjusting images as well as applying filters. There are numerous filters that you can use such as soften, sharpen, noise, relief, color, artistic, and much more. There are also numerous adjustment options as well. PhotoFiltre also uses two types of selection tools one which uses automatic shapes and the other which is a lasso and polygon tool. These tools allow for great customized drawing and even lets you save each selection as a separate file.

Is there a certain image editor that you like better? Which is your favorite? Please let us know in the comments.
